The Contec Sonoline C handheld fetal doppler is an easy to use, compact, high performance model suitable for home or professional use.
Suitable for use from about 12 weeks, it’s a completely safe way to listen to your unborn baby’s heart rate.
Running off 2 x AA batteries, which are included (2 x Kodak AA batteries) meaning your doppler is ready to go, and weighing less than 180g with the batteries in, the Sonoline C displays the fetal heart rate (FHR) on a backlit digital colour 160 x 128 pixel LCD screen and also has a built in loudspeaker to listen to the heart rate. It couldn’t be more easy and straightforward.
The Sonoline C has three FHR processing modes: real-time FHR, averaged (over 8 beats) FHR and a manual mode. The FHR can also be displayed in waveform. It has a built in visual alarm which displays normal heart rate (FHR 120-160 bpm) in green, and an abnormal FHR in red.
The Sonoline C offers a continuous service for up to 15 hours and has a battery level indicator to advise when to change the batteries. The louspeaker has excellent sound quality and means you don’t need headphones for the device.
The headphone/ recorder socket allows you to record your baby’s heartbeat onto a suitable recording device to share with your family and keep for the future.
The fetal doppler emits and receives totally safe small high frequency sounds waves (ultrasound) which reflect off the fetal heart. Based on the Doppler Effect principles the device uses the differences in frequency and wavelength between the emitted and received waves to calculate the fetal heart rate (FHR). Obstetricians and midwives have used these devices for some years as an effective means of evaluating fetal condition. For home use the device can give reassurance between check-ups and hospital visits but of course should not be used for diagnostic or treatment purposes.
Can be used from 12 weeks of pregnancy
You apply a small amount of ultrasound gel (a 250ml bottle of gel is included) to your tummy and move the waterproof 2mHz probe around above the pelvic bone until you pick up the rate and sounds of movement. You may hear hiccups and burps as well as the heart beat!
